So if you don't already know, my husband and I packed up all of our things and headed from Florida to the PNW! We are very adventurous people, and have always had a love for Oregon! The jaw dropping coast, the popularity in health and wellness, the lush forests, mountains, and awesome coffee are just a few reasons to love Oregon!
After four full days of driving across the country (which was an experience all by itself) we finally made it to our beautiful new home...Corvallis, Oregon. Of course we couldn't wait to check out the food scene! We spoke to the locals and found out about a place called "Gathering Together Farm" in Philomath, Oregon (about 10 minutes from Corvallis). Everyone had wonderful things to say about this awesome farm/market/restaurant! We had purchased their spring mix from a co-op in town and couldn't believe how fresh and delicious it was! By the way, we just can't get over the fact that we can buy so much local food! Produce has never tasted so good!
So off to the farm we went, passing by beautiful rolling hills and farm lands! Once we got there we were in love with the ambiance. The restaurant was right next to the farm where you can see chickens roaming, and fresh organic vegetables that would be on our plates very soon! We decided to not worry so much about sticking to a paleo diet and enjoyed whatever we wanted on the menu. Every now and then, this is an exception for me, especially if it's a special occasion! Although the menu was organic, local, and super fresh!
We had local red wine from a vineyard that wasn't far from the farm, and for our appetizer we had chicken hearts and zucchini! The chicken hearts were perfectly cooked and served on a stick. The zucchini was so fresh and crunchy and had some sort of balsamic sauce on it! It was to die for. Of course I must say, the service was exceptional! Our server Jonah was super friendly and offered us a farm fresh salad with goat cheese and balsamic, on the house. YUM! We really felt like we were at home.
For our entree we split a duck, kale, mozzarella, and fried egg pizza! Yup...PIZZA! This was definitely a treat for us. I haven't had wheat in long time and I was so excited to try it! This pizza was cooked in a wood fired oven and was unbelievable! It was well worth straying away from paleo for the night! The yolk was runny and fresh tasting, the duck was perfectly cooked and the crust was a wonderful combination of crunchy and soft in the middle. To good to be true? Try it yourself!
After Jonah told us about the desserts, we quickly changed our minds and had to try the homemade strawberry ice cream! I can't remember what he called it, but it was basically "torched". I'm not to sure if that was the right word to use, but just trust me on this one... AWESOME!
All in all, if your in Corvallis you must make it out to "Gathering Together Farm" in Philomath and experience it for yourself. Honestly some of the most fresh and delicious food I've had in a long time! Between the beautiful view of the farm, warmly welcoming staff, and the organic amazingly crafted food, I would rate this restaurant TOP on my list of favorites! Check it out my friends!
